Granulated RPET

Recycled PET approved for food contact

The company’s flagship product, the only one with food contact approval approved by the FDA and EFSA. This product promotes the idea of bottle-to-bottle recycling, which is gaining momentum around the world. According to this idea, which embodies the values of the circular economy, a used bottle reaches the end of its journey, is collected at the recycling facility, recycled, and returned to the industry for the production of new beverage containers.

The recycling process

After automatic sorting processes in advanced systems that separate the types of plastic, different colors and waste such as metals, cartons and other foreign materials, shredding, further separation of the plastic materials for more precise sorting and finally hot washing in the presence of chemicals are carried out. The chemicals are then cleaned from the recycled material and a final sorting is carried out to obtain maximum quality. At this stage, the flakes continue to another process in the advanced recycling line of the Austrian company Starlinger, which performs recycling using the SSP (Solid State Polymerization) method.

In a special process, the PET flakes are heated to a temperature below the melting point, but above the glass transition temperature. This results in a polymer with a higher, more uniform molecular weight, which can be used in the plastics industry. Finally, the material undergoes a reduction process to obtain a finished product of the highest quality.

Recycled raw materials and uses

The properties of the resulting product are suitable for various processing methods: injection molding, extrusion, and blow molding. The product applications are numerous and include various packaging, including food packaging and beverage containers. Possible colors: transparent, shades of blue, color mixture.
