In The State of Israel, all households throw away about two hundred and fifty thousand tons of plastic products each year. Most plastic waste is empty packaging of products. These plastic products take up thirty percent of the total volume of waste in Israel, and constitute about fifteen percent of the weight of waste in an average household.

Getting rid of plastic by burning is out of the question because it releases huge amounts of hazardous materials into the air. What products does a plastic recycling company produce?

There is a variety of materials that can be produced from recycled plastic:

• PET Flakes – Products made from PET flakes that have been sorted and chemically washed. After washing away the chemicals, the flakes can be used to manufacture cake and cookies packages, or fruit and vegetable packaging (e.g boxes of grapes or cherry tomatoes).
• PET Granules – Similar to PET flakes, the initial flakes are sorted and chemically washed. Afterwards, they undergo chemical processes that create a recycled material with a very high quality that can be used to make new plastic bottles from recycled, food approved source.

Green PET Recycling was established in 2019 by two of the largest beverage companies in Israel, and Zohar Levy. The company operates a recycling plant in the Galilee, thus contributing to employment in the periphery. Green PET believes in a circular economy, and promotes it.
